"Absolute
Hardcore 2" is a collection of 108 tunes mixed by 7 DJ's over 7 CD's.
It is a must buy for anyone with the slightest interest in the UK hardcore
scene.
The collection highlights everything that is
good, and a lot of what’s bad about the scene at the moment. Hardcore
may not sell as well as it did a few years back but the standard of tunes
being produced is getting higher all the time. Unfortunately there is a
lack of new talent breaking through, which is shown by the lack of new
producers appearing on this collection.
To go through each mix and tune would be
impossible (and dull) so instead here’s a selection of highlights and
lowlights from the C.D. For the record however Mark E.G, Brisk, Vibes,
Slipmatt, |
 |
Scott
Brown, Vibes and Sy mix the C.D’s.
Best Mix: -
Brisk wins hands down with a set that includes tunes from Bang!,
storm, 2 damn tuff, Trixxy and Force & Styles.
Best Rip off: - This
goes to Stompy, Monty & D’Skies version of Celine Dions "Everynight".
The thought of that bloody song being sped up with a bouncy rhythm didn't
exactly appeal to me but it works and is the highlight of Vibes' mix.
Best Remix: - This
was going to go to Brisks brilliant version of "DJ’s in
effect" but it was |
 |
narrowly beaten
by Monty & D’Skyes version of" You had it all". The
original was the tune that first got me hooked on hardcore and the remix
does it proud.
Best Newcomer: -
Presuming that this is a new artist and not an established one going under
a different name (why do they do that?) Hyperactive wins the honors with a
remix of "Raver’s Groove" entitled "Let me play".
Special mention: -
This goes to Storm who I thought had dropped off of the face of the earth
who has four tunes on the various CD’s. I remember reading some comments
on the "Next Generation" website in which somebody suggested
that Storm did sweet Fanny Adams for the |
 |
scene except get
into events for free. The tunes on this collection show otherwise, the
best one being "Funky Drums". The entire Mark E.G. CD is also
excellent. It sounds as if a great deal of thought has gone into this mix
with the tunes progressively increasing in tempo as the mix goes on.
Tunes the skip button was made for: - To
be honest most of the SY and Unknown stuff is dull as dishwater with the
only real exception being the "Sensation" remix. Vibes'
"Slammin' Vibes" sounded well dated compared to the rest of his
set.
Cheesiest tune: - There
are a few contenders in here but the one that really stands out is |
 |
VGT#2.
This VinylGroover number is a real block of blue veined stilton with a
cringe-making with a chorus of "I’m raving, I’m raving" to
the tune of walking in Memphis...Yuck!!
